Unique Electric Violins
One of my many hobbies over the years has been making electric violins. The first three groups of pictures show the instruments I have made in the order I made them. These are my own design and were built from raw materials, except for the chin rest, pegs and the fingerboard which was bought as an unfinished blank. The third violin, with the machine heads like a guitar set near the chin rest, is a five string instrument which can give hints of a cello using the lower string.
The group of pictures below the text show an acoustic violin that I made from a kit. The skill involved in making acoustic instruments is amazing and well beyond my capability, but the kit gave me a small appreciation of the years of dedication it takes to become accomplished in this art.
Although there isn't a picture here, I also made an electric guitar when I was in my 20s. I couldn't afford to buy one at the time. I was inspired after reading an article about Brian May's efforts building his own instrument, with his father's help. I still have the guitar now although I'm in the process of refinishing the wooden body.
